With the Nedbank Children's Affinity, you can support the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund at no cost to you. Since 2005, more than R118 million has been donated to the fund.

You can support the well-being of children in southern Africa by simply banking and investing with Nedbank. You can make a difference in the lives of the children of southern Africa. Through the Nedbank Children's Affinity, you will support various Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund projects, which focus on the following:

Children’s survival and development - first 1 000 days of life

With children mortality being labelled as a critical health issue due to malnutrition, lack of immunisation and access to medical and healthcare services, the first 1 000 days of a child’s life is a prime focus area.

Children’s safety and protection - safe schools

Violence in schools manifests itself in numerous forms, including corporal punishment, bullying and sexual abuse. With help from various subject matter specialists, this programme is aimed at ensuring children’s safety in schools and communities.

Youth leadership - Youth Think Tanks

Unemployment affects many young people, including school learners and graduates. The Youth Leadership Programme is intended to respond to the many challenges that young people are confronted with throughout, including high rates of unemployment, poverty, crime and substance abuse.

Sustainable Livelihoods Project

The Sustainable Livelihoods Project has been introduced to address poverty experienced by families, especially in areas that the government has identified as nodal points. These are areas with high unemployment and low production rates due to various reasons, including being isolated in terms of securing basic services. The project aims to help families and communities cope with vulnerability while creating a better life and brighter future for the children.

Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital

The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital (NMCH) has been operating since June 2017. The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital is now the second dedicated children’s hospital in southern Africa, and the first in Gauteng. The facility treats children in need of surgical and life-saving interventions due to complex illnesses. The hospital offers the following critical services: Neonatal and paediatric intensive care units (biggest in the country), cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, general surgery, ENT (ear, nose and throat) service as well as renal services, including dialysis supported by diagnostic radiology, anaesthesia and allied health services.
